While I'm still actively researching my topic, I decided to share a couple of interesting ones I've found so far. Let me know what you think! :)
Pediatrician Practices Regarding Referral to Early Intervention Services: Is an Established Diagnosis Important?
Testing and Beyond: Strategies and Tools for Evaluating and Assessing Infants and Toddlers
Heather, these look like great articles!! I'm glad you are finding some helpful literature for your literature review!
ReplyDeleteLooks like two interesting articles from the abstracts, Heather. Interesting how doctors demand to have that diagnosis where in schools we're tending to want to treat before getting that diagnosis so we can avoid labeling kids when some early instruction solves the issues.
ReplyDeleteHey Holly,
ReplyDeleteIn the medical setting unfortunately without a medical diagnosis children will not qualify for services these days. Private insurance, Early Intervention and even Medicaid will only authorize therapy if the child has a diagnosis or "label" and since typically medically involved children or children who are borderline will not receive therapy in the school setting it is very important to make sure that they get diagnosed appropriately and receive the appropriate intervention.
Its a fine line we tread with labeling children early or not.
I'll be happy to share some other articles I've found along the way.

I know what you mean, I worked in the hospital and nursing home facilities and it was frustrating. Listening to you last night with the purpose statement I could relate to all you're trying to fix! Sometimes doctors just don't get it.
